This is a known issue with Microsoft Windows. It is related to a problem with the active profile when using the User Profiles. Depending on the version of Windows that you have, there are different steps. Please see the correct section listed below for your version of Windows:


Windows Millennium Edition

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Go to the Programs menu.
  3. Go to the Accessories menu.
  4. Go to the System Tools menu.
  5. Select the System Information option. This will open the System Information window.
  6. On the System Information window, go to the Tools menu.
  7. Select the Registry Checker option. You may receive the following error message:

    Windows encountered an error accessing the system registry. Windows will restart the computer and repair the system registry for you.

    If you receive this error message, please continue to step 8. If you do not receive that error message, please follow these steps;

    1. Quit all programs that are running
    2. Click on the Start button.
    3. Select the Run option. This will open the Run window.
    4. In the Open box, type “scanreg /fix” without the quotes.
    5. Click on the OK button.
    6. Click the Yes button when prompted to restart the computer.
  8. Click the OK button to restart the computer.
  9. Follow the remaining steps to restore a good copy of the registry.
  10. Once the steps to clean your registry have been completed, insert disc 1 of Invoices and Estimates and start the installation.

Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. While the computer is restarting, press and hold down the CTRL key until the Windows 98 Startup menu appears.
  3. From the menu, select the Command prompt only option.
  4. After the system loads to the command prompt, type “scanreg /fix” without the quotes and press the Enter key.
  5. After the Registry Checker tool completes repairing the registry, press the Enter key.
  6. At the command prompt, type “scanreg /opt” without the quotes and press the Enter key.

    Note:The /opt command-line switch causes the Registry Checker tool to optimize the registry by removing unused space.

  7. Restart the computer and let it boot normally.
  8. Once Windows finishes loading, insert disc 1 of Invoices and Estimates and start the installation.
