With the newer cameras, they are "mounted" to your computer as if they were an extra drive. When you attach the camera and turn on the power, the system will add the camera as an extra drive on your computer. You can use either Windows to copy the images directly off the drive, or PhotoImpact Pro to access those images.

To use a camera drive with PhotoImpact:

  1. Connect your camera and make sure it is powered on.
  2. Launch the PhotoImpact Pro software.
  3. Go to the File menu and select the Digital Camera option.
  4. On the Digital Camera Wizard window, make sure the Digital camera option is selected under the Get images from section.
  5. Where it says Camera drive or card reader, click the drive letter, normally A:\, to the right of that.
  6. On the Select Image Source window, click the Auto Find button to automatically locate your camera drive. If that does not locate the drive, scroll through the Location list and locate the new drive that represents the camera.
  7. Click on the drive so it is highlighted and click the OK button.
  8. Back on the Digital Camera Wizard window, it should now show the drive letter that was selected from step 7 next to Camera drive or card reader.
  9. Under the Copy images to section, select the Create folder in option. It should already show that it is going to create the folder in the My Documents folder by default.
  10. Either type in a folder name for the Custom folder option, or select the Folder named with date option.
  11. Click the Start button. The images found on the camera should now open in the PhotoImpact Pro work area. They will be saved automatically with the information used in Step 9.

If you have an older camera, it is likely a TWAIN compatible camera. If that is the case, you will need to have the TWAIN drivers properly installed for it to use the camera to directly bring in images to the PhotoImpact Pro software. Here is an example on how it is done:

  1. Connect your camera and make sure it is powered on.
  2. Launch the PhotoImpact Pro software.
  3. Go to the File menu and select the Digital Camera option.
  4. On the Digital Camera Wizard window, make sure the Digital camera option is selected under the Get images from section.
  5. To the right of that, click on the Generic link.
  6. On the Select Type of Digital Camera window, select your camera from the list and click the OK button.
  7. Back on the Digital Camera Wizard window, either type in a folder name for the Custom folder option, or select the Folder named with date option.
  8. Click the Start button. The images found on the camera should now open in the PhotoImpact Pro work area. They will be saved automatically with the information used in Step 7.

Note: If your camera is not listed on the Digital Camera Wizard window, you may need to click the Here option on the right-hand side of the window. Then, you would need to select the drive that your camera is listed as.
